[EN] DSL Connection
« on: 2014/11/25, 09:24:48 »
I have just tried a live session of the latest KDE and cannot create a DSL connection. I tried using both the network manager in panel and nm-connection-editor in terminal. I can create the connection details (username & password) but it always insists on trying to connect with the default "Wired connection 1" and not the "DSL Connection" or "new pppoe connection" which display as "never used".

Any help would be appreciated.

hi,

do you try to establish a wireless connection aka wlan/wifi or via cable?
Do you use dhcp or a fixed IP-adress?

Please provide us more informations.

My DSL connection is a cable. It comes from the street and plugs directly into the back of the PC. There is no router or anything else in between. I have no other method of connecting. My IP address is dynamic using dhcp.

mh, i don't use NM, maybe you can try "ceni" in the command line.
What does ifconfig say after you connect the cable?
Did you try dhclient eth0 -v or how the interface is called.
Is your interface recognised?

please provide the output of inxi -n.

Then it can't be DSL, this is impossible.

Well, my ISP sells me it as DSL and I have configured it as such with about 12 other distros so guess it is better to just move on.
