I really would like to understand why the cronjob script is working for others but not for me:

Path and permissions of the script:
Quote
# ls -la  /etc/cron.daily/flash
-rwxr--r-- 1 root root 115 Jul 11  2013 /etc/cron.daily/flash

The content of the script
Quote
# cat  /etc/cron.daily/flash
#!/bin/sh

test -x /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin-nonfree && /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin-nonfree --install --quiet

Test
Quote
# run-parts --test -v /etc/cron.daily
/etc/cron.daily/0anacron
/etc/cron.daily/apache2
/etc/cron.daily/apt
/etc/cron.daily/apt-show-versions
/etc/cron.daily/aptitude
/etc/cron.daily/bsdmainutils
/etc/cron.daily/chkrootkit
/etc/cron.daily/debsums
/etc/cron.daily/debtags
/etc/cron.daily/dlocate
/etc/cron.daily/dpkg
/etc/cron.daily/exim4-base
/etc/cron.daily/flash
/etc/cron.daily/htdig
/etc/cron.daily/locate
/etc/cron.daily/logrotate
/etc/cron.daily/man-db
/etc/cron.daily/mdadm
/etc/cron.daily/mlocate
/etc/cron.daily/ntp
/etc/cron.daily/passwd
/etc/cron.daily/sysklogd

anachron did run the job (because I booted my computer long time after 6.25). But I wonder why none of the other daily cronjobs is mentioned here?
Quote
root@lintower:~# cat /var/log/syslog | grep cron
Feb  5 14:02:38 lintower anacron[3015]: Job `cron.daily' terminated
Feb  5 14:02:38 lintower anacron[3015]: Normal exit (1 job run)

Still the old version
Quote
# update-flashplugin-nonfree --status |grep Fla
Flash Player version installed on this system  : 11.2.202.335
Flash Player version available on upstream site: 11.2.202.336

Does anyone has a clue what's wrong here?

i'd say it is not cron, but the flash updater itself...

my output is as follows. note the 404 error, it seems to be the source of the problem

When I ran update-flashplugin-nonfree -iv last night, I didn't catch the 404.  I don't use a cron, so, I concur with absolut that it's the flash-updater itself.

Today when I checked, I'm still getting a 404 and:
# update-flashplugin-nonfree --status |grep Flash
Flash Player version installed on this system  : 11.2.202.335
Flash Player version available on upstream site: 11.2.202.336

There is a bug already filed:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=737745

Edit: BTW -  I'm using Iceweasel version 26 from experimental.

The download error is triggered by the line
Quote
downloading http://people.debian.org/~bartm/flashplugin-nonfree/fp.11.2.202.336.sha512.amd64.pgp.asc
If you look in that ftp-directory, the $foo.sha512.amd64.pgp.asc is not there for version 336, the last version available ist for 335 from January 15th.
As the path shows a /~bartm/ and apt-cache show names Bart Martens as maintainer for flashplugin-nonfree, I suppose Bart did not catch up with adobes newest version or simply forgot to update some keyfiles. I remember we had that same situation earlier, was solved after one or two days.

... I remember we had that same situation earlier, was solved after one or two days.

The bug report was me and the maintainer took action immediately. Executing the update-script now installed the new version. So I wonder what you (GoinEasy9) did install tonight - given today's output ;-)

As the weak point in this whole update process was and still seems to be updateing the checksum, maybe someone who can should help out the maintainer with a script which updates the checksum as soon as a new version is availabe to avoid those errors ;-)

And for all of us, maybe in the future, instead of asking here around, the first one noticing the 404 when updating flash should simply file a bug report. reportbug, once you are a bit accustomed to how it works, makes it easy. And as it allows for browsing related bugreports you can decide whether to confirm an existing bug report or file a new one.

@ absout
Could you enhance your script to give an error (mail too root) if a *possible* update fails?

@michaa7  What installed earlier seemed to be a reinstallation of 335.  Running update-flashplugin-nonfree -iv now worked and 336 was installed.

just checked the desktop at work, and the recent 336 version of flash is installed. thanks michaa7 for reporting this bug.

the basic idea to extend the script would be to run update with -iv and directly after that check with -status. if there is a version mismatch, then you got your trigger.

currently, i am lacking time to extend the cron-job script. if anyone wants to step in, please, go ahead.
