[EN] Live and install possible clock problems
« on: 2024/02/14, 18:39:38 »
When running siduction live or installing on a windoze computer, the clock may be off (may use UTC as local time).  This can result in updates not working because the repos are not yet valid, and the install may abort for this reason.
mxlinux syncs the clock and does not have this problem.
It's not easy for the user to fix this as ntp and other time services are not running by default in the live.
I suggest either syncing the clock or documenting this and showing user how to easily fix.
Also install could force updates to work even if time is out of sync.

This can result in updates not working because the repos are not yet valid, and the install may abort for this reason.

Some hardware seems to have a clock sync delay after booting. On my MS Surface Pro 7, immediately after booting the time will be 8:00 plus or minus 10 minutes, and it won't read the repos. But if I will issue

Code: [Select]
date
then it updates the clock and update works as expected. (This  could be a battery issue.)
