Hallo allesamt,
ich habe dieses Problem schonmal in seligen sidux Zeiten dargelegt und bis heute keine Lösung gefunden. Ich habe zwei Rechner mit NVIDIA-Chipsets, auf denen der 2.6.36 Kernel (egal ob towo oder slh) ums Verrecken nicht zum Erkennen der eingebauten Festplatte und damit zum Starten der Linux-Installation zu bewegen ist.
Beim Starten gibt es nur "qc timeout" bzw. "failed to Identify Boot-Device" Fehler und er fällt in Shell der Initram-Disk zurück. Die auf der Platte installierten 2.6.34-er Kernel hingegen gehen absolut fehlerfrei.
Wer ist mir bei der Lösung dieses ärgerlichen Angelegenheit behilflich... ?

Ins Blaue geraten: Schonmal mit pci=nomsi als bootparameter versucht?
Ansonsten: Welches Motherboard?, Bios-Version?, Festplatten-typ?

Danke für die Infos, aber die Optionen (einschl. einiger lt. Kernel Handbuch wie pci=bios und so) hatte ich schon ausprobiert. Es ist ganz offensichtlich, dass 2.6.36 irgendetwas mit dem PCI/IRQ Handling bei diesen NVIDIA Chipsätzen anders erkennt und somit andere Ergebnisse in der Hardwareerkennung liefert.
Übrigens funzt auch der Debian-SID Standard-Kernel 2.6.32-686 fehlerfrei.
Mmhh, grosses Rätsel ...

Übrigens ist eine genaue Angabe der probierten "linux-image" Version hilfreich! Slh hat gerade ein paar Patches eingespielt, die eine Rolle spielen könnten, in der neuesten aptosid Kernel Version!

2.6.36-0.slh.5 geht bspw. auch nicht ...

ich verstehe nicht, was Du damit meinst. Das "bspw." bezieht sich nur darauf, dass ich es mit mehreren 2.6.36-er Kernelchens probiert habe.

ich verstehe nicht, was Du damit meinst.
Ich wollte nur betonen: Deine Info, wie sich die Sache mit der letzten Kernelversion verhält, ist keineswegs nebensächlich.
Zur Erinnerung: Durch unser Feedback können wir zur Entwicklung aktiv beitragen, wenn wir mitliefern
- eine Beschreibung unserer Hardware
- die Version der ausprobierten Software
Durch OppaErich kannst Du jetzt vergleichen, ob es an etwas anderer Hardware bei Dir liegt. Oder es ist ein Konfigurationsproblem bei Dir, wenn Du einen Hardware Fehler bei Dir ausschließen kannst.

Tja, Hardwareprobleme sind nahezu ausgeschlossen, denn die Kisten laufen beide ja problemlos mit dem 2.6.34 Kernel, wie ich schon schrieb. Softwareseitig sehe ich eigentlich auch keine Möglichkeit - bis auf die von mir geschilderte Variante mit dem PCI / IRQ Handling - denn mit dem 2.6.36 Kernel wird ja die Bootfestplatte nicht erkannt, also kann sich da auch softwareseitig noch nix verhakt haben. Na ich warte mal noch ein bisschen ab...

So, was lange währt wird gut ...
Ursache war eine falsche BIOS Einstellung für den SATA Zugriff. Nach der Umstellung auf den zweite BIOS Option "Enhanced" funktioniert alles fehlerfrei. Also bei solchen Dingen immer auch mal im BIOS rumspielen habe ich daraus gelernt.

Es war hat nur die halbe Wahrheit, denn die neue BIOS Einstellung führt zu vollkommen instabilen Betriebszuständen und Abstürzen en masse. Nach dem Umstellen des BIOS und der Verwendung des älteren Kernels geht alles wieder vollkommen problemlos.
