[EN] (Solved) Can't get desktop after DU
« on: 2015/01/04, 22:15:52 »
I just ran a du on my laptop. I probably last updated two or three weeks ago. Now I can't get to the KDE desktop. After login I get a cursor on a black screen and it never gets past that. Another odd thing is that in the drop-down menu on the login screen it only lists "Default Xsession". It's as if some critical part of KDE got wiped out, but which part?

Some people had essential kde packages removed today. My guess is, that happened to you. dpkg.log will tell you.

Looks like kde-plasma-desktop was removed. I reinstalled it and all is well again. Thanks.

I also lost plasma-desktop today, on one out of four KDE systems.  I did not see it go -- apt did not report packages to be removed, and it was quite a job of detective work to find out what was wrong with that system, because the fluxbox login worked, but KDE came up with an empty black screen.
