Title: [Solved]Format for External Hard Drive

Have an external hard drive that I want to use as backup ,whats the best to format it ? ext 4 or something else ?

ext4 will be fine if you're only using it for Linux. But if you want to share it with hosts running other OS's, you have to format it with something they can all use, such as fat32.
