I am not talking about Mass Storage that i do not use knowing it is not working.
I'm well talking about MTP protocol. 64 or 32 bits does not change anything.
It is working very well with my 32 bits Bodhi distro and Mint 17 (Kde and Cinnamon, i have the two ones).
But nothing to do with my Sid kde (Debian or Siduction, 32 or 64 bits change nothing, always the message "process mtp died abruptly" once i have upgraded my system but working before!).
I am reading things about udev rules but without conviction, i have tried a bit with no success.
Searching and searching. In french we have a proverb : "Patience and time Do more than force and rage"

I have no idea why your MTP is not working, it works fine here on all 4 of my machines, no lag, no errors, works and works well.

On my previous post, I was referring to this sentence in your post

Quote
Usb Mass Storage do not work properly with my phone i can't see my SD card do not work properly with my phone i can't see my SD card

As many people don't know that Usb Mass Storage is pretty much obsolete, depending on your version of android.

Sorry for the confusion

I've just re-install siduction 64 bits. Just after that and before doing anything i install kio-mtp. It works well. After i install my nvidia-legacy-304, nothing else. I reboot and try my phone.with the cable : works fine; i see my internal and my SD card.
I do not changes the repositories after installation :
debian.net unstable main non-free contrib
base unstable main
extra unstable main
fixes unstable main
kdenext unstable main
No user no experimental and no contrib and non-free in the upper repositories.
I made my (long) dist-upgrade.
Everything works EXCEPT my kio-mtp : when connecting my phone the ugly message : process mtp died abruptly.
Really i do not understand where is the faulty package or file.
I omitted to say that i did previously of the dist-upgrade, the upgrade of the libmtpxxx and that my kio-mtp did work fine. The dist-upgrade don't upgrade the kio-mtp which is the same. I copy the /lib/udev/rules.d/69 mtp rules in /etc/udev/rules.d as i have seen somewhere.
Did you say strange ? Yes it is and i am tired of it.
For now I use Droid over wifi. It's alright.
Last thing to do enable user repo and the different contrib and non-free to base, fixes , extra.
Sorry for my buzz around kio-mtp but i don't like not understanding something. It's so long a time i am playing with Linux. I'll go on i'm only 70 years old!!

kio-mtp depends on

Code: [Select]
Depends: libc6
  Depends: libkdecore5
  Depends: libkio5
  Depends: libmtp9
  Depends: libqtcore4
  Depends: libsolid4
  Depends: libstdc++6
  Conflicts: kio-mtp:i386

and I know some of these were updated during the du

Conflicts: kio-mtp:i386  <---> * could  be a problem for you

I do not use a /lib/udev/rules.d/69 mtp rules, no need for it, I have experimented in the past with older phones and this one, but, not needed anymore (for me at least)

spacepenquin has some great info also, ES File Explorer is probably the best app installed on my phone and it reminds of konqueror as it does so much

I can understand your frustration with this as you just want it to work and I have no more useful info to give you (if I gave you any to begin with)

I am stumped here

Thanks Piper for your interrest.in my research.
I guessed that udev rules was not the problem since kio-mtp worked before upgrading and i change nothing about them.
If it is because of the upgrading of one of the packages you mentionned it could be a Kde bug or an incompatibility with solid4 or lib...c6.and as you have no problem may be because of my phone in particular.
I think to signal a Kde bug anyway.
Right now i'am back to pure Debian Kde sid. The problem is the same, even before upgrading from testing (from testing to sid no upgrading around Kde).
Well i go on playing with Linux but Siduction is a good one. I remember when Debian did not work with my old Nvidia (7300 Gt) with the 304 driver but Siduction did work well.
Bye...

I have no problems with my Nexus 4 and 7 (2012). I use krusader most of the time. But that doesn't matter because all the magic is done by kio-mtp

Code: [Select]
$ LANG=C apt-cache policy kio-mtp
kio-mtp:
  Installed: 0.75+git20140304-1
  Candidate: 0.75+git20140304-1
  Version table:
 *** 0.75+git20140304-1 0
        500 http://http.debian.net/debian/ unstable/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

and libmtp9

Code: [Select]
$ LANG=C apt-cache policy libmtp9
libmtp9:
  Installed: 1.1.8-1+b1
  Candidate: 1.1.8-1+b1
  Version table:
 *** 1.1.8-1+b1 0
        500 http://http.debian.net/debian/ unstable/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Do you have problems with other usb devices? Did you change the port? Maybe to an self powered usb-hub?

Hello Orinoco,
I think you did not read all the posts where i say it works well just after installation (so i know what are the good packages) but it does not work anymore after upgrading. I tried everything 32 and 64 bits always the same problems. All my usb devices work well where i connect my phone.
So it only could be a problem with my phone ( a simple alcatel pop s3) and the new libraries ( i've the same packages you mentionned).
Thanks for the reply but it does not help.

Just one last info : I try the phone of my wife, nearly the same than mine, that is why i did not try before (It is an ALCATEL POP C5 with Android 4.2.2- my Android is 4.3) and surprise it works perfectly !
What do you advise me ? Take the one of my wife she does not use it with the PC. No not good idea it have not the 4G.and she would be angry!!
Well it's something with Android and the new libraries.
I'll go on with Airdroid or Droid over wifi, all two working well.

It can't be that, I have been running android L developer preview  and a modified (ramdisk mods) version of android L developer preview since the day it came out. MTP works fine here. "L" is right around the corner, possibly within the next 2-3 weeks, the nexus 5 (my phone)  will be the first phone to have it, the nexus 6/nexus X, will ship with it and will be the only phone to have it ahead of the nexus 5.

I will get the 6/X the day it goes on sale ;)

Hello Piper,
I do not understand very well what you mean.
As for me i was speaking of MY Android - only 4.3.3 and the new libraries of mtp in Kde not in Android.
So i still think it's a problem with MY phone and MY Android, not working with the libraries in Debian (or Siduction of course). That is why i give up about the researches since i know the phone of my wife works i am practically sure i'm right.
I dont think my Android is going to be upgraded. I hesitate to ROOT my phone to see what happen because if i break something i am not sure i could buy another phone.
May be the future upgrading of packages will resolve the problem.
Wait and see!

Your version of android is Android 4.3 = Jelly Bean which I could not test on my nexus 5 which runs Android 4.4 = Kitkat by default and their are no roms (custom) that are below kitkat and makes no sense to make one.

I did a test with my older motorola  triumph and did testing with jelly bean and again, no problems using MTP.

Your wife's phone works, yours don't, and I really can't find anyone using your phone having problems with mtp and linux (a few dozen with windows) and I see last month you had a post at SolydK with the same issue.

If the phone was mine, I would do a backup (nandroid, etc) and do a factory reset and don't install any apps, stay stock and try mtp again, but, that way is not for everyone, depends on how good you know your way around android.

I really don't think it is a debian/siduction issue.

The only other simple thing I can think of is switching it from media device (MPT) to camera (PTP) and back again (in settings)

I have no further advise or ideas

Hey Piper,
Thanks for your good ideas. I am not a specialist of Android but i am not to bad in computing (that was my last job in active life) so i think i will try a reset.
The only thing i would not lost are my contacts but they are already saved on Sim card. As for applis i always can re-install them. It amuses me to do it.
I tried PTP to MTP and vice-versa no good result.
I let you know what happens.

Hey Piper,
I reset my phone to initial values (factory) but it does not change anything. Always the message for Mtp dying abruptly. Sniff...
Jelly Bean has many versions so i must have the bad one may be... re-sniff..
Anyway i continue to think there is something to see with a package - or more - since it works very well before upgrading and it works under Mint 17 and Bodhi with Thunar without kio-mtp, packages being generally older than in Sid.
I don't remenber if it was working under Sid Xfce. I'll try again one of these days.

Dear fauser17,

maybe an alternative for you, maybe an old story: http://albertvaka.wordpress.com/2014/06/28/awesome-contributions-to-kde-connect/

It does not depend on kio-mtp. It smells like Airdroid with heavy KDE flavour. I'm still testing but I'm excited about it.

@orinoco: Well, doesn't seem to be of interest as I already mentioned that I am using it (excited too ;) ) and no reaction... But it's really a very good alternative if you are a KDE user.
