[EN] [SOLVED]: LiveCD works, but no X after install
« on: 2012/08/21, 01:29:23 »
Hey, I decided to try out the LXDE build of siduction (Desperado Reloaded, v 2012.1.1).  The LiveCD works as expected, but I cannot start X or the Slim display manager after installing to my hard drive and rebooting.

It shouldn't matter, but I slightly modified my install before rebooting to allow for an encrypted root and separate /boot partition (I edited /etc/crypttab and ran update-initramfs -u from a chroot).  The dmcrypt/LUKS part of the login process goes through smoothly though, and I didn't touch anything related to xorg or graphics drivers.  I can log into my account through the terminal, but I get the following message at the bottom of a long error stream if I try running startx or startlxde:

"blah blah blah

Fatal server error:
no screens found"

I'm running a laptop with discrete ATI Firepro graphics (Mobility Radeon HD 5800 Series), and my screen has a native resolution of 1920x1200.  Here's a copy of my /var/log/Xorg.0.log file (slightly modified to omit actual UUID's...no idea if those would ever be useful in any attack, but I'd rather not find out the hard way ;)), which indicates that no device is specified for "Screen 0", and that screens were found, but none have a usable configuration:

There's probably a simple xorg.conf fix or something, but I don't know what it is, and I could use some guidance. :)  Speaking of which, here is my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.  I don't really understand the syntax or anything, but one thing I did notice was that there is no mention of the radeon driver or anything similar, just the vesa driver.  It's identical to the xorg.conf used by my LiveCD setup:
