[DE] Wie wird Wayland festgelegt?

Fedora 34 und Ubuntu 21.0.4 haben ja Wayland festgelegt als Standard. Ich frage mich wie das gemacht wird, ich würde da gern etwas mit rumspielen. Ist das eine configure-option die gesetzt wird beim bauen von irgendwas? Wenn ja welcher und wo. Oder wird das komplett anders gemacht. Selbst ein einfaches 'startx' startet das Waylandprotokoll, getestet unter Ubuntu.

Also das hängt jetzt ganz davon ab welches Desktop Environment du nutzt.
Als Beispiel KDE einfach

apt install plasma-workspace-wayland installieren und dann im SDDM vor dem einloggen Plasma(Wayland) auswählen und einloggen, schon hast du eine wayland-session. 
Wie man jetzt wayland von der Komanndozeile aus startet, weiß ich auch gerade nicht, das ist aber auch bei jedem DE anders.

Nein, nicht beim  DE, das mu schon vorher irgendwo festgelegt sein.  Das passiert garantiert schon beim bauen der Pakete. Ein simples startx startet auch auch schon das  Waylandprotokoll z.B. bei Ubuntu. Reines Xorg funktioniert da gar nicht mehr. Wenn man  wie ich Cinnamon nutzt geht nix mehr, weil Cinnamon kein Wayland kann.

Nun also von der Nutzer-Perspektive aus widerspricht das zwar meiner Erfahrung, den genauso hab ich Wayland ausprobiert. 
Aber ja Pakete müssen mit Wayland-Support gebaut werden, sonst kommt XWayland zum Einsatz.
In Punkto startx gibt es mehrere Skripte und Programme, die startx zum entsprechenden Wayland-Befehl übersetzten wie z.B. https://github.com/hv15/startw allerdings würde unter ubuntu auch

alias startx='gnome-session --session gnome-wayland' in der .bashrc ausreichen.
