Hello,
some packages of the brandnew cinnamon 2.6 desktop have arrived in sid.
Sadly the main package "cinnamon" is still waiting in the NEW-queue for its dependency cinnamon-doc, which needs to be approved by the ftpmasters.
So don't dist-upgrade while not all needed packages are available in debian unstable.

agaida has uploaded some missing packages into our fixes repo. Mostly untested stuff, so be warned:
We have seen crashes of cinnamon-session, so let us test before you upgrade or you get to keep the pieces.

to resolve the problem downgrade all packages to version 2.4.x.

After this edit:
/usr/bin/cinnamon-session-cinnamon
and add the export statement to solve another problem with clutter:

export CLUTTER_BACKEND=x11
exec cinnamon-session --session cinnamon "$@"

You can install XFCE or other desktop to repair Cinnamon easier.

lolli - äh, you misread the posts above, we had fixed 2.4 and 2.6 too - if there are any glitches with 2.6 these glitches are introduced by the user configurations (yes, cinnamon as a project has sometimes problems with a clean upgrade path)

nach einem D-U am 4.6. um 12:49:34 hatte ich diese Fehlermeldung beim Start von Cinnamon
cinnamon: symbol lookup error: cinnamon: undefined symbol: meta_plugin_type_register
Einige Cinnamon Komponenten hatten die Version 2.4 (experimental repo) und einige 2.6 (unstable repo). Z.B. die Pakete 'cinnamon' und 'cinnamon-common' liegt in 'experimental' in Version 2.4.x, in unstable aber in Version 2.2.x. Während viele andere Cinnamon Pakete in unstable in Version 2.6.x, in experimental aber in 2.4.x vorliegen. Dieser Mix führt dann zu obigen Fehler den man mit einem downgrade wieder zurückbiegen kann. Also genau die Situation wie Post

okay,
i am switching the signal to green for siduction cinnamon 2.6.
Just make sure you have enabled our siduction/fixes repo (it's default).
several test installations, either virtual or physical, have passed the dist-upgrade without any issues.
The one issue, that had alarmed us, was confirmed to be unrelated.

Hello,
just pushing this thread over the other cinnamon 2.2 thread (which is also fixed).
The packaging issue in pure debian unstable was fixed by aigaida by uploading the missing packages into our fixes repo.
Enjoy cinnamon 2.6 and have a nice weekend!

the debian cinnamon team has succeeded and the cinnamon 2.6 package was accepted by the ftpmasters, finally!
We will see some more uploads for refinement, e.g. a new nemo-fileroller is planned.
I will mark this thread as solved now.
