What does this mean for nvidia legacy driver (304): It isn't built yet or it won't ever be built?

In the latter case, what are my choices: Using the nouveau driver (which always was problematic with my card) or buy an old, used AGP/PCI card (must have a look which one it is in my ageing MB)?

You should update nvidia-settings since you have an ancient version installed.
Code: [Select]
towo:Defiant> LANG=C apt-cache policy nvidia-settings
nvidia-settings:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 340.17-0.siduction.1

Ups, I didn't activate user contrib repository of siduction. As Towo pointed to me, now:

ii  libnvidia-ml1:amd64                       340.24-0.siduction.1              amd64        NVIDIA Management Library (NVML) runtime library
ii  libxnvctrl0                               340.17-0.siduction.1              amd64        NV-CONTROL X extension (runtime library)
ii  nvidia-alternative                        340.24-0.siduction.1              amd64        allows the selection of NVIDIA as GLX provider
ii  nvidia-detect                             340.24-0.siduction.1              amd64        NVIDIA GPU detection utility

Siehste!

Ich wollt' schon fast schreiben nvidia hätte das problem beseitigt als ich eben beim d-u (gefaked mit "apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade --ignore-hold -d") feststellte dass nichts entfernt werden soll.

Danke towo!

I have uploaded nvidia 340.24, which is the new long-lived driver-branch.

Also read http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3142/ (http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3142/)

Wo findet man diesen Treiber?
