[EN] [SOLVED] KDE not start after login and start a loop
« on: 2018/09/02, 16:31:48 »
I am not sure about what is happened but when i try to login on my KDE I go back to the login box again.
I saw that I was missing the kde-plasma-desktop package and that sddm fails to start.
on xorg and dmesg I cannot find any error useful.
also before login i was able to access to a konsole with failsafe mode that was with only a konsole without the window manager running (kde-window-manager is installed).
probably I made a apt upgrade and a package was removed but I have no idea about what is.
Someone can help me on fix that?
with siduction live I am able with chroot to install the packages that are missing.

Here is something to try, which has worked for me recently:

Go to tty1, login as root, shut down X and make sure no user processes are running.

Then go to the user's home folder and delete ~/.config/kwinrc and ~/.config/plasmarc.

Now use apt to first purge kwin-x11 and plasma-desktop, then to install kwin-x11 and plasma-desktop.

Now try to log in as user.  If it works there will be new (default) kwinrc and plasmarc configuration files in your ~/.config directory, so you will have to re-do your systemsettings for the desktop theme, window decorations, etc.

seems that only renaming kwinrc fixed the issue (i don't have the other file in that folder).
thanks a lot!

using testing or unstable/sid (siduction) and did you tried another $user?

give us an inxi -c0Sxx

If you use testing, did tried this below?

I did upgrade all 5.47 packages to 5.49. All Frameworks bits are supposed to be upgraded at the same time.

I use testing but I also have unstable repositories enabled using pinning, and what I did is:

apt-get -t unstable install $(dpkg -l | awk '/5.47.0/ { print $2 }')

I was told (thanks diederik on IRC) that this should work too:
aptitude -t unstable safe-upgrade ~i~V5.47.0

[...]
Only if !

I don't have other users apart root on my machine ...

Then, please, create one and try to log in!
If the error still exist, then something messed up your system, if it is possible to login, then something is wrong with your settings.
That could be a point to move on.

And it will help a lot, if you share the output of "inxi -c0SGIxx".

Another update.I had that problem again and tried with the same workflow to fix it.After a while of tests I saw that the problem was a script that I added after getting working few days ago.The bash script is placed in
Code: [Select]
/home/mte90/.config/plasma-workspace/env/[code] but had a syntax error. With that error KDE was crashing on start and going back to the login loop, fixing the script resolved everything.
