Current cups upgrade (2.2.8-5 –> 2.2.9-1)
3 packages will be removed:
libcupscgi1 libcupsmime1 libcupsppdc1

# apt-mark hold cups
or are these packages redundant?

I just noticed that you can subscribe to Debian Tracker, although maybe one wouldn't want to.  I assume your email inbox would be quite active.

New 2.2.9 upstream release
     - Remove libcups{cgi1,mime1,ppdc1} packages as they are not built
       anymore upstream
