[solved] d-u removes/breaks gnome-shell
« on: 2013/08/18, 14:11:04 »
hello gnome users,

i have not done my d-u a few days, so it expectably is a bit bigger than usual:
Code: [Select]
188 upgraded, 15 newly installed, 26 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Attention: gnome-session, gnome-shell, gnome-control-center and evolution are among the removals. Setting some packages on hold reduces the removals.
Code: [Select]
# apt-mark hold gnome-session gnome-shell gnome-control-center evolution gnome-games gnibbles
gnome-session set on hold.
gnome-shell set on hold.
gnome-control-center set on hold.
evolution set on hold.
gnome-games set on hold.
gnibbles set on hold.

I'm still testing the results and will report back.

greetings
musca

Feedback: With those holds (see above) i could dist-upgrade and got at least a working gnome desktop.

Code: [Select]

# apt-mark showhold
gnome-session  gnome-shell gnome-control-center
evolution  gnome-games  gnibbles  quadrapassel

# apt-get -dy dist-upgrade
The following packages have been kept back:
  evolution evolution-common gir1.2-clutter-1.0 libclutter-1.0-0
  libclutter-gst-1.0-0 libevolution
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 6 not upgraded.

cheers

No dist-upgrade!

Another partly upgrade with breakage,

some additional packages arrived, and i only left evolution and gnome-control-center on hold.

Dist-upgrade went fine, but after reboot and login i have no panel. Desktops contextmenue allows for running terminal.

So better stay away from dist-upgrade for now.

[edit] today i reverted this snapshot in my testenvironment. After latest d-u the panel (or merely the opened menues) didn't accept mouseclicks or keyboard input. So better keep staying away from dist-upgrade for now. I 'll restart dist-upgrading from clean state (two days ago).
