Hello linearjim,

your posting was splitted apart from the old thread.
I think this issue is worth a new thread as it is not about packaging issues of latest xorg 1.17.

Your kernel is slightly outdated, we have seen 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 kernelupdates. Bugfixes for widely used drivers might be integrated rather quickly. If theese updates don't help, you also are invited to test 4.1.0-rc3 from our experimental repo. (Our fglrx and nvidia are patched for 4.1, but you need to patch virtualbox).

greetings

hi
i just saw that this post was moved...
i upgraded to 4.0.1-towo.2-siduction-amd64 but but the error persists..

will try rc later, by "patching" you mean just reinstall  virtualbox-dkms and rebuild with the new kernel?

hello linearjim,

why only 4.0.1, but not latest stable mainline 4.0.3-towo.1? Did you loose the metapackages? Reinstall them with:
Code: [Select]
apt-get update && apt-get install linux-{image,headers}-$(uname -r|sed 's,[^-]*-[^-]*-,,')

No, without modifications of the virtualbox-dkms source you won't be able to compile its kernel module for kernel 4.1.0 (which is what dkms does for you). I have tested an unofficial patch and will later update this posting with instructions. (Oracle's official release 4.3.28 and 5.0_beta3 are capable).

greetings

Google helped me find a relevant thread on debian.org.  I don't see a final conclusion, but it suggests that the firmware-linux-* and the intel-microcode packages might fix it.

It appears to be a known bug with development work going on as recently as last month.  I would assume devs are still on it -- a fix should be forthcoming, but no way to know when ....     :'(

EDIT:  @linearjim it is possible that the drm error is actually unrelated to your sporadic logout issue.  The reason I say that is, I have an HP laptop with Intel graphics that throws the same drm errors at the end of booting as you are seeing, but otherwise runs trouble-free.  Here is my hardware FYI:
