Hello,
just du'ed to 4.12.2-towo.2, USB mouse doesn't move or click anymore. Even in CLI no movement, although gpm is loaded in memory. Also tried with alternative mice and changing batteries, same result.
Till previous kernel (which I am running now) everything worked, so it looks like there's something about the new one. here is 4.11.9-towo.1 output from dmesg:
[ 8.619218] usbhid: USB HID core driver

Hi,
I've mouse problems with towo's 4.12 kernel too:
Thinkpad Lenovo T500 with docking station, tlp, Logitech mouse M325 with unifiying receiver
- no mouse when receiver pluged directly to the laptop
- mouse ok when receiver pluged into the docking station
- no problems with towo's 4.11.11 kernel

I also have the problem when I directly attach other USB mice.
It's a workstation so i have the test of PS2 which instead works.
What were the diffs applied in the kernel upgrade?
Question is: is this due to the diff's or due to 4.12?
-
Can you plug another usb-device on such not working port to see, if it is recognized by the kernel?
And please post the output
lsmod | egrep "usb|hci"
-
Just done with other wireless mouse and also changing USB ports with both. No effect. Both work with older kernel.
Is there some output which would be needed to better understand?
-
By other devices, i mean not another input device, i speak of usb-stick or such.

USB stick works perfectly. Just mice don't.

please try
modprobe usbhid
-
modprobe usbhid has no effect.

It looks like there's a problem with usbhid driver with the new kernel.
After all, Torvalds said this new 4.12 release features a huge +1 million lines of code, I fear the problem could be there.

Hi,
I get this at boot time:
sp5100_tco: I/O address 0x0cd6 already in use
Google brought up some bug reports about AMD watchdog stuff. System seems to run fine though.
Have fun,
Stephan

@OppaErich - good point - @ALL - if bitten by the bug, please be more verbose about the used Platform - AMD or Intel

This would make one think that the problem could happen before usbhid plays in, and would take place at the level of USB hub recognizement. It's like the driver would not attach to hubs for a certain reason.
Anyway, this explanation would not explain why wireless mouse doesn't work in the same port where a usb stick does.

This would make one think that the problem could happen before usbhid plays in, ...
Anyway, this explanation would not explain why wireless mouse doesn't work in the same port where a usb stick does.
Why not - there was some changes lately in the kernel - maybe in this generic/special drivers context -
https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-usb/msg157950.html
The whole thread is interesting- esp. the part about not picked up devices.
-
Please post the output of
lsmod | grep hid
from the 4.12 kernel.
-
lenovo t500 and logitech mx518 mouse
mouse dont work on new kernel here either.
In fact i get hung at login screen. Nothing works from there, cant even get to tty
-
From 4.12 the output of:
lsmod | grep hid
is null.
After issuing a:
modprobe usbhid
the output is:
usbhid 49152 0
but nothing changes, the mouse pointer does not move.
Sorry for message syntax, without mouse everything gets crazy.
THX
-
Strange, I have here two laptops with Logitech M570 trackballs and the newest 4.12 kernels.
No problems at all yet.
regards
Reiner
-
As far as we're currently understanding, some USB buses are hit and some aren't.
Lucky you!

Mich würde interessieren, ob der aktuelle Kernel von aptosid dieses Verhalten auch zeigt, also wer Lust hat, kann diesen mal installieren und schauen, ob damit das Problem auch auftritt.
-
Their last release in mirror dates back to 2013 as seen here:
http://aptosid.office-vienna.at/aptosid/release/
I could try it "live", but such a du of 4 years would maybe be impossible (just reinstalled a laptop of 2 years ago because couldn't du anymore).
-
You would not need a d-u, nor aptosid. You can download the 2 needed debs (image and headers, not the metapakgaes of them) and then installing them on siduction.
-
So you mean a basic dpkg -i using files from the following?
http://aptosid.office-vienna.at/aptosid/debian/pool/main/l/linux-aptosid/
I would install just the kernel without the headers.
In this case I could try it this evening.
ahahah, looks like a slh vs towo contest :D
(btw, what a useless duplication of energies, I hope someday the communities will rejoin or, at least, some more will also migrate here to siduction...)
-
Just tried the aptosid kernel: USB mouse is working :)
thomas@t500-lan:~$ uname -a

towo, du hattest den richtigen Riecher! ;D
Hier auf den Desktop ging das schneller und ist i.O. !

Mit dem neuen Kernel 4.12.3-towo.2 funktioniert hier auch wieder alles wie gewohnt.
-
fixed with 4.12.3-towo.2.
Thx towo
-
I can finally also confirm that the new kernel has fixed the issue.
Danke sehr, Torsten!
Btw, just for the sake of curiosity, what was it?
-
My mice were all ok on all devices. I just had an issue on a Thinkpad T540p, where I could not scroll with two fingers on the touchpad , had to use the scrollbar. That is also fixed with latest kernel.
