[Solved] System will not boot after latest d-u
« on: 2014/12/01, 20:14:51 »
Hello,

i did a dist-upgrade yesterday and since then system will not boot.
Here is what i get

Code: [Select]
[8.......]systemd-fsck[369]: /dev/sda4: clean
[ ***]  A start job is running for LSB: Raise network interfaces. (50s / no limit)

System will hang there and will not continue.

Thanks a lot in advance

delta9, fyi I've seen that same thing once last week and had to wait several minutes (!), after that the next boot went fine. Didn't check the reason...

I had the same issue a couple times in the past year, never took longer than a minute or two to boot. The problem went away after a couple of days. If you want to dive into it, here is a relevant bugreport . Please report on your findings or if you need further help.

I have also seen this issue -- at one point earlier this year one of my systems would take 5 minutes to get past it.

However, I have never seen the timer say "nns / no limit".  It always gives an estimate of the total duration.  I wonder about the networking configuration -- did you set it up with ceni?  Anything unusual about it?  Wired or wireless?  Maybe take a look at dmesg and make sure the harware and firmware is being handled correctly.

Had this message on my system too when setting up my wireless chip with ceni. However, it just took a minute to establisch the connection and continue booting. Using Network Manager again, no waiting anymore.

Yep, today I saw it for the first time.  Hmmmmmmmmm.  But after about two or three minutes, the boot continued and was error-free.

Thans a lot for your replies.

I did what ayla suggested and problem is solved. I just installed network manager and stop using ceni.

Same here, about one and a half minute delay before boot goes on... I don't have any wireless card and therefore I guess nm for me is no option (apart from that I don't want to use it). What about the graphics driver? Installed is nvidia-driver 340.46-6...
