Similar thread started in Crunchbang and BunsenLabs forums, so I thought I'd start one here. Here's my first contribution to the thread:

I've been over at Bruno's All Thing's Linux on Scott's Newsletter for a while. There's a similar thread there too.
Anyhow, here's something I came across a while ago...

This is only semi- on topic, at best, but I found it a humorous comment on our friends at MS:

Warning: Do not go to the above site in Qupzilla v1.8.9. It will crash your system and bring you to the login prompt. Appears Qupzilla can't/doesn't want to handle the javascript errors that show in other browsers in a separate window.
For those of you in Germany or other EU countries, I've recently discovered that there is a competitor to Moleskine called Leuchtturm1917. It's supposed to be better based on one brief review that I recently read. I do know that the Leuchtturm1917 is offered in more cover colors and the pages have pre-printed numbers.
https://www.leuchtturm1917.com (https://www.leuchtturm1917.com)
Update: Took a closer look at the Leuchtturm1917. I use notebooks with squared/graph lines for the above hack. The Leuchtturms take away space at the top of each page to allow for a date entry and also takes away space at the bottom of each page for the page number. I think I'll stick to the Moleskine notebook.

What was new to me:
Powershell for Linux and Bash for Windows10
https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/powershell-is-open-sourced-and-is-available-on-linux/?cdn=disable
You’ve heard Satya Nadella say “Microsoft loves Linux” and that’s never been more true than now. Nearly one in three VMs on Azure are Linux. Nearly 60 percent of third-party IaaS offers in the Azure Marketplace are open source software (OSS). We have forged strong industry partners to extend choice to our customers. We’ve announced SQL Server on Linux, as well as open sourced .NET. We added Bash to Windows 10 to make it a great platform for developing OSS. And, we’re active contributors and participants to numerous open source projects (e.g. OpenSSH, FreeBSD, Mesos, Docker, Linux and many more) across the industry.
How fundamental and long term is for sure questionable in regard of Ms history ... I don't want to begin a big discussion about that.

Wow.
I do have a strange fascination with old books on seemingly boring topics -- that one is right up my alley. I have a very old and somewhat damaged book from the American Civil War -- the front cover is gone so I don't have the official title or publication information, but the pages are titled "Cavalry Tactics". (My GG grandfather was a Captain in the Ohio Volunteer Cavalry and owned this book.) Here is a sample of what you can learn when you read this book:
http://imgur.com/4WXAz1k (http://imgur.com/4WXAz1k)
There are dozens of pages of the maneuver diagrams, along with instructions on how to skirmish with the enemy. ;-)
-
Military buffs and/or historians would love that book.
I wasn't interested in the knot book because it was old. I was more interested in the knots. The book was mentioned in a video on the BoredParacord YouTube channel. I've become interested in the things you can make and do with paracord.
Edit: Attempted to locate the book online, but unable to do so with the limited info in the picture you provided. You should consider scanning the whole thing and putting it up online somewhere. That book is certainly a treasure that would be valued by many.
Here are a couple of links I came across regarding the Civil War that I thought might interest you:
Cavalry Tactics: or Regulations for the Instruction, Formations, and Movements of the Cavalry of the Army and Volunteers of the United States (http://www.2ncmi.org/cookescavalrytactics.pdf)
Numerous links to civil war info (https://historicaltextarchive.com/links.php?action=links&cid=6&sid=93)

I think that first link you posted must be an earlier version or volume of the same book. It is very similar -- there is a section on skirmishing and a section on how to load and fire a pistol while mounted -- mine has those sections, but the page numbers don't match and mine has a special section on the Colt pistol, so probably mine is a later version or volume of the same book. On the spine of mine, it shows a title "Cavalry Tactics, Vol. 2".

Yep, @piper, great job! It is certainly the one in your third link -- the "Vol. II". How interesting to learn about the old book that has been handed down in my family since my gg grandfather passed in 1909. Here is more about him on my website:

Early 2017 Snowden Interview (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmovaPIsHa0)
Enjoyable interview IMO, although I think the title was poorly chosen. Decide for yourself while watching the interview. I love Edward's quote near the end of the interview.
