ssssssssssssssshoot, I was wrong, confused because there was no "siduction" visible in the server response. It's all about a siduction mirror, so the following is nonsens. Here.

1) Why do *all of you* not use the generic address:

deb http://http.debian.net/debian sid main contrib non-free

This works here since I don't remember since when. This "automaticaly" gives you the best available server which in most cases is the nearest one.

2) http is more reliable than ftp.

3) There is no *best* server. And if ever, it's the generic one.

4) The reported error most likely was caused by a mirror sync which wasn't completery finished.

5) using the generic address avoids all malfunctions, uneccessary forum threads or user action at all if a server chances address, stopps working, closes for whatever reason. The generic address connects silently to an other server without a user noticing it at all.

you talk about a siduction mirror, the thead starter has problems with a Debian mirror.

There's a typo that is causing a problem, too.
