[EN] Siduction KDE vs TuxedoOS
« on: 2025/07/25, 22:29:00 »
Hello,

I'm migrating from LMDE and consider to use TuxedoOS to get first class support for my TUXEDO InfinityBook Pro AMD Gen9 laptop.

However, knowing that few Siduction devs work at Tuxedo and that KDE Plasma is also 1st class citizen in SIduction I do wonder how does Siduction hw support compare with TuxedoOS?

I did try with WebFAI install, but gave up on it — not liking partition configuration, ext4 as filesystem etc.

Sincerely,
Gour

If you use the Tuxedo OS ISO image, you can partition however you want. I have siduction running on one of my Tuxedos for more than five years and for six months on a new Tuxedo PC without a problem. Another Tuxedo notebook runs Tuxedo OS just fine.

Yes, that's clear, but I was just curious if WebFAI doe provide something important over Siduction?

Thank you.

I could not wait any longer and in the morning installed Siduction on my Tuxedo...had some issue with testing build - "kernel must be loaded first" error, so re-installed from the regular build.

Still configuring/installing some apps as well as restoring data from restic backup, but, so far, everything is fine.

Somewhere I read about tuxedo-rs and wonder whether it is recommended over Tuxedo-center?

Also I do not see anything fort fan-control in TC...

As far as BIOS/EC updates are concerned, those have to be performed manually, I suppose?

For fan control, in TCC you can edit whatever profile you use through the hamburger menu in the profile. I have not tried tuxedo-rs. If you do, please let us know how it went. BIOS/EC updates need to be performed manually; LVFS is not ready yet.

Ah...I always thought they're preset and that's it. This is  8)

Good. Not a big issue and definetely not a reason to choose TuxedoOS over Siduction.

Now, when I finally decided to use KDE, I want to settle on Siduction and terminate my distro hopping.  :D
