[EN] "Filter failed"
« on: 2024/03/20, 22:44:02 »
Hi all,
I have a  LBP113/913 Canon printer which was working perfectly and then stopped with the last big updates.
The jobs fails with "Filter failed" message. I have reinstalled the Canon drivers but it didn't help.

Code: [Select]

You've reinstalled the driver but have you tried to reinstall the printer?
Code: [Select]

Yes, suppressed and recreated the printer.

During the recent T64 transformation I noticed several cups packages were going to be be remove. I was able to avoid it but did you? Are you missing any cups packages?

I just installed a new Cannon wireless printer the other day and it went without issue and prints fine although it shows as driverless.

The jobs fails with "Filter failed" message. I have reinstalled the Canon drivers but it didn't help.

That is the message I get on my HP LaserJet when the proprietary firmware plugin is not installed. Does your Canon need a firmware plugin?

Thanks for the answers.
The Canon installation script does an "apt update" and installs what is necessary. I suppose that all the cups packages are installed. Same answer for the firmware.

I have tried to change the driver to LPB 112 but same result.
If I try to clean the printer I got the message
Code: [Select]
Unsupported document-format "application/vnd.cups-command".
Code: [Select]
journalctl -b | grep cups

Do you have libcups-filters installed? Should be a t64 version now.

I think so :
Code: [Select]
dpkg -l  |grep cups |grep filter
ii  cups-filters                                             1.28.17-3.1+b1                            amd64        OpenPrinting CUPS Filters - Main Package
ii  cups-filters-core-drivers                                1.28.17-3.1+b1                            amd64        OpenPrinting CUPS Filters - Driverless printing
ii  libcupsfilters1t64:amd64                                 1.28.17-3.1+b1                            amd64        OpenPrinting CUPS Filters - Shared library

I'm not sure what to add at this point. Possibly a firewall issue but you say the printer is detected automatically so this may not be the case.

If it works as a driverless printer, then there is no need to install extra printing software.
What you can try is to download our latest, in this case kde, testimage, and try to print a testfile. If it's working, then something is broken or miss configured on your system.

OK, thanks for the advice.
Is there a way to have a newer version of Siduction than the installation media from 09-Sep-2023  ?

I have the same problem with the livecd
-if I choose IPPeverywhere printing the test page gives me "Job cancelled at printer"
-if I choose LPB133 driverless ; "could not get the pdd file".
