@axt - you might be surprised, but i guess i know the time when sid is safe to upgrade - ok, not that often, but:
One can assume sid safe to upgrade at any Debian release day, exactly from the point when the new release is ready to be tagged until the new release cycle begin and the freeze is over :D

I have no clue to what you 2 are talking about :P

Piper - it's just that people spreading myth about sid being unstable - nonsense, we know that sid is the better stable :P

I can prove this - have a look at the topic of #debian-devel-changes:
Code: [Select]
#d-d-c | RC bug count: 472 | stable RC bug count: 787 | NEW queue: 49 | backports NEW queue: 21 | RM queue: 21 | dinstall: not running

In fact is debian stable so buggy that they don't fix it - they give up from time to time and make a new release, kind of frozen sid :P

Sid, the mother of stable.  It's pre-stable!   ;D

How long has it been since you last DU'd? What packages are you holding back? What versions do you have installed? Also important: What is your hardware like? what video drivers are you using?

There have been a number of times in sid's history when there were version conflicts, errors, etc.

Point in case: I don't think we can give you any solid "reputable" advice without more info. If you want to know about recent issues with upgrading, you could have glanced at the front page of upgrade warnings and clicked on the top few posts to get a decent idea of what these issues are, which are fixed, etc.

I hope I helped.
