I noticed this at the end of todays dist-upgrade:
Setting up makedev (2.3.1-90)
/var/lib/dpkg/info/makedev.postinit: 34: [:Illegal number: 3-0]
I seem to remember something similar happening last year sometime. But is it pointing out something important I should attend to?
-
I do not find /var/lib/dpkg/info/makedev.postinit,
also apt-file does not know /var/lib/dpkg/info/makedev.postinit
-
Package outdated, not compatible any more?
Description:
"This package is not necessary for most modern Linux systems, where the udev subsystem provides a more dynamic mechanism for device file management.
Priority: extra"
-
is postinit meant to read postinst?

devil: Yes. Sorry it's a typo.
-
siduction-paste /var/lib/dpkg/info/makedev.postinst
-
towo:
Tried doing siduction-paste /var/lib/dpkg/info/makedev.postinst
But received:
/var/lib/dpkg/info/makedev.postinst: 34: [: Illegal number: 3-0
Find your paste here: http://paste.siduction.org/20120321215149 - Thank you for using siduction-paste!
http://paste.siduction.org/20120321215149 appears to be empty.
But here is the text of /var/lib/dpkg/info/makedev.postinst extracted manually:
#!/bin/sh -e
cd /dev
# don't stomp on devfs users
if [ -c .devfsd ]
then
echo ".devfsd presence implies active DevFS. Aborting postinst before touching /dev."
# use exit 0, not 1, since this isn't a failure, per se
exit 0

As i sayed above, siduction does not come with makedev installed, since it is not needed it modern linuxes. So i would purge this package.
-
Packages which only want makedev and NOT udev:
libggi-target-fbdev
z8530-utils2
Any one can get maintainership from Joop Stakenborg, who upgraded makedev in year 2009 the last time
-
Thanks towo & ralul.
I have neither libggi-target-fbdev nor z8530-utils2. Also all my packages that depend on makedev can use udev instead. So I shall remove makedev tomorrow.
