[EN] Spotify freece display
« on: 2018/02/09, 11:04:42 »
Since some weeks spotify is not working on one of my computers. After start the spotify window will start to blur, then it freeze and if I'm not quick quting spotify everything freeze and I have to hard reset the machine.  It looks like a display (driver) problem. I have three other computers with working spotify. This is the only one with nvidia graphics.

I have also tried to install spotify with snap boot the stable and the edge variant but it's the same problem then.

What can I do?

Edit: Checeked with older kernels, 4.14.14-towo-1 > spotify works without problems
4.15.0-towo-1 the problems begins, weird graphic but no real crash when testing.
With newer kernels a few minutes of spotify will freeze the computer.

Never used Spotify, so no clue. You could try to install it as a snap.

As I wrote I have tried two snap versions. Today I also installed again with the spotify repo and found that they have a testing repo, tried and it's working better but after a while it mess up the display  again and as before it effects the whole computer not only the spotify window.

Edit: This is extra shitty because this computer is the media center in our house. Spotify write

Spotify for Linux is also released as a Debian package. Our aim is that it should work with the latest Long Term Support release of Ubuntu, but we will try to make it work for other releases of Ubuntu and Debian as well.
I't would have been better they aim att debian instead of ubuntu.

I have done d-u two times a day and now 5 minutes ago I did it again and now spotify is working on the "nvidia" machine again.

Couldn't see anything getting upgraded that I understand have to do with the nvidia drivers or spotify, but on the other hand I don't understand how this is working, I'm just a user as I have pointed out many times before.

Thank you anyway for continuing this best of all dist. :)

Edit: Some small display itches can be seen so I wont mark this as solved yet, I will test more first.
