strange network behavior ceni vs. NM
« on: 2012/11/26, 01:02:05 »
Here it is what happens on my eeepc running desperado reloaded xfce 32bit

I'm able to use ceni for connecting to my home wlan.

I decided to try using NM, therefore I chose to use NM from the ceni menu. Doing so NM icon is back in the system tray, but if I click on it I get the grey message "device not managed" and I cannot see any network.

If I use ceni again, it connects flawlessly to my network.

Any hint?

here is the inxi output, if it serves for something

Code: [Select]
Network:   Card-1: Atheros AR8132 Fast Ethernet driver: atl1c
IF: eth0 state: down mac: 00:26:18:82:a8:ef
           Card-2: Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) driver: ath9k
IF: wlan0 state: up mac: 00:25:d3:38:7e:bd
           WAN IP: 94.36.25.136 IF: eth0 ip: N/A IF: wlan0 ip: 192.168.10.76

cheers

???

As far as I know, when you replace ceni with NM you first have to remove the used interface in ceni, and *afterwards* you may install NM. Otherwise NM will not be able to recognize the interface.

If you did it the wrong way you first have to uninstall NM, the deactivate the interface in ceni, then reinstall NM.
Ok, you can't code, but you still might be able to write a bug report for Debian's sake
