[EN] Siduction boots to BIOS instead of operating system after shutdown

I recently installed Siduction Linux and overall it was working very well. The installation process went smoothly and I'm happy with the performance so far.

However, I've run into an annoying issue when shutting down and restarting my computer. After I shut down from Siduction, my computer boots straight into the BIOS instead of loading Siduction. I then have to go into my BIOS settings, and manually select the boot device and boot path to get Siduction loading again.

Before installing Siduction, I was running Kubuntu which never had this issue. Kubuntu would always boot straight back into the operating system after a restart or shutdown.

I'm not very experienced with troubleshooting boot issues, so I'm not sure what could be causing Siduction to keep dropping out of the boot path on restart. My laptop is ASUS UX305UA, and I don't dual-boot.

I have went back to Kubuntu but if this issue can be solved, I would very much like to return to Siduction.

Only Kubuntu(haven't tried other flavours, but I assume they are the same) works flawlessly. Even when I tried to clean install Debian, it left Kubuntu's boot order in the first place in BIOS and the OS would boot into Ubuntu's non-existing grub even when I only had Debian on my computer.

I do not know if you are fit in German language[, but may be you should investigate some time in using efibootmgr. With efibootmgr you can change settings for the bootorder and so on.

I do not know german, but thankfully Google Translate does. Thanks for the link, it was very informative. I might install Siduction now, and see if I can solve this.

Solved! All i had to do was to go to efibootmgr in siduction and remove ubuntu's boot entry.  Now, i can shutdown or restart and it boots to siduction instead of uefi.

This happened a regular Siduction upgrade just using apt.

Now after entering the disk encryption password, the laptop reboots into the BIOS consistently.

With one laptop, I reinstalled Siduction which solved the problem. The other one I'll try to revive using efibootmgr and I'll report back.

OK, this happened too now with another DELL XPS laptop. Seems that the LVFS (firmware upgrade from the OS) wrecked my laptops.
Siduction + Gnome + Disk Encryption, cannot get passed the encryption entry page at start (it reboots to BIOS).
Will now try to downgrade the BIOS and reinstall, and *disable* LVFS.  (sudo apt-get purge fwupd)

Did you guys look into https://forum.siduction.org/index.php?topic=9111.0? That might well be the problem at hand. Easily fixed with the instructions from the 2nd post.
