AMD Crimson driver drops support for TeraScale-2
« on: 2015/11/30, 14:17:19 »
Hello,

I'm writing this, because I just have purchased an A10 based notebook this month.

The upcoming AMD crimson driver will require the Graphics Core Next (GCN) microarchitecture
and it will drop support for the preceding AMD Terascale-2 microarchitecture.

Theese cards will not be supported:   this information is still ***beta***
All Radeon HD 5000 and 6000, 7000-7600, 8000-8400
OEM-Cards like "R5" Model 210, 220, 230 and 235X
Integrated graphic units of the trinity and richland APUs
(e.g. AMD A10-5757M with Radeon HD 8650)

AMD will not update its legacy driver to work with latest kernels or Xorg. Just avoid proprietary drivers.
If you own such a device you can still use siduction with the free radeon driver with non-free firmware.

greetings
musca

At the moment it is the installer that prevents the installation of the crimson driver on the legacy systems. The driver version 15.11 still supports all chipsets. You just can't install it on legacy systems.
So distro packages that don't use the proprietary installer may still work.

But AMD will modify the driver in the next releases, of course.

I haven't used Catalyst for years. Most chipsets work great with the free driver.
