I'm scared!
« on: 2015/07/20, 23:54:29 »
I just installed indiansummer on one of my desktop partitions. A dist-upgrade gives me ~1100 updates, ~300 new pkgs and 15 removals. I have added kdenext in my sources. Do these numbers look about right? Removals look OK.

You did not say which desktop environment, if any, that you originally installed.  Given that, 1100 to be updated plus 300 new sounds like KDE, and that is in the correct ballpark.  Do the update with no running user session or DE, i.e.

Code: [Select]
systemctl isolate multi-user.target at the root prompt in tty1 console, before running the upgrade.

hello sedonix,

you are right, alone in the last three weeks about 500 packages have been updated.
The transition to QT5, KDE Framework 5 and Plasma 5 is the reason.

Don't panic! Development will calm down at least ;-)

Thanks guys!  Yes, it's KDE and here I go!  I've used KDE all these years on sid and this is a REAL upgrade.

1098 updated pkgs + 304 new pkgs =1.1GB data. What could go wrong?  :o   Well, after the first 3 dependency problems, I decided to call it a day. I may or may not go back since I don't need the install and have better things to do. Please don't offer to help as I don't want to invest in the required time right now.  How about I wait until it's all sorted out on your next version, Indian Winter  8)

sedonix: if you are afraid of such little upgrades - it might be that a rolling unstable distribution is not for you - if we make a new release, there will be 200-300 packages to be upgraded after the first month (depending on the speed and the transitions in sid)

In other words: sometimes sid is rough. We are in these times now.
