Been using linux for a while - trying out siduction xfce on a 30GB section of My HD.
Now the first thing I've all ways done is to update/upgrade using synaptic - no synaptic
So went to terminal and did - apt-get update && apt get upgradeNow looking at forum it looks like this is a big no no
- will it have broken My system ?
Next if I install synaptic can it safely be used to install programs , for instance leafpad ?
..Siduction loads ...
Quote from: "theblackpig"..Siduction loads ...Did you reboot? A live system?I *assume* that dist-upgrade pulled to many new packages and you ran out of RAM. I don't understand your setup. Live or 30 GB hd?If you only want to try out use a usb-stick and install to it like you do to hd. Then you have the complete usb-sitck for dist-upgrades. With live system you only have the Ram space. But if you have the system on hd and now a blank screen, how blank is it? Black konsole with "Login:" in the upper left corner?
