[EN] Live iso and install
« on: 2023/01/09, 21:26:04 »
Trying to install latest kde version. Intel I5 9300H / 16Gigs ram / Nvidia Optimus setup Intel UHD 630 - Nvidia 2060m.  After boot into live disk desktop and bar has no icons. I can see the sub text for the icons and hover where they should be but cant see. Can hover over menu/favorites and click terminal but it takes 10 - 15 minutes to open. On latest Kubuntu it does the same but after install it's fine. Managed to get Siduction installed even though system is hanging constantly. After reboot into installed system same issue and if I click anything it freezes for 10 plus minutes.The only thing using resources is plasma. Tried updating and installing nvidia drivers but after reboot no desktop at all. The XFCE live version is fine. Any ideas or direction to look?

Please start the live system again and put
Code: [Select]
intel_iommu=off as additional bootparamter.
Please tell me, if the desktop then looks ok.
And the better way would be, come to our irc, then help would be faster.

And since you have an Optimus setup, you have to read https://wiki.debian.org/NVIDIA%20Optimus carefully.

Copied from IRC.    When you see this tomorrow. Did another clean install with same issue. Looking through htop had about 15 instances of plasmashell running. Killed them logged out and back in and everything is running great now. Running updates now to see how it goes. It survived the updates even a kernel update.
