[EN] Debian KDE repository and updates
« on: 2022/01/24, 11:24:48 »
Hi everyone,
so for a long time prening released his personal repository to have in Debian the latest updates from KDE but he stepped back few days ago https://www.preining.info/blog/2022/01/future-of-my-packages-in-debian/
Also, some weeks earlier he said that now it is possible to use the original debian repository because they are updated and there is a team on Debian KDE with new people following it.

The latest KDE release is 21.12 but on debian we are still on 21.08 from the mailing list on Debian KDE I wasn't able to understand what are their plans for this new release. I see that they released some minor updates of minors of some KDE packages already in the repository, so they are indeed working on that.

There is someone that have better information about the status? I liked so much when on debian sid there were more fast KDE updates as I am following the development.

Just to clarify, I am on Siduction (Debian Sid) without any Preining Stuff and KDE is at 21.08, that's not too far behind. Let's see how the Debian Devs get it done to catch up ;)

So what is the best way to return from Prening/OBS back to sid. Just wait until debianhas the newer packages?

You can use already sid as the packages are more updated compared to them but they will not be updated anymore, so we have to wait like years ago for debian for updated KDE packages...

They work fine for me, as always. With both changes, there were some 800 packages to update.

This is old news. That repository does not exist anymore and there are no more contributions from Norbert Preining for Debian to be expected.
