Title: Nach Update: Bildschirm friert nach einiger Zeit ein, nur Maus beweglich
Post by: tomsiduction on 2018/12/04, 22:11:55
Hallo

First thing I would do is a full-upgrade, your using kernel 4.17.6-towo.1-siduction-amd64 x86_64, the latest is 4.19.6-towo.3-siduction-amd64

Thank you

I did as suggested.
I will report what will happen.

Unfortunately still the same

Thank you

Code: [Select]
6.940s NetworkManager-wait-online.service
          1.429s s6.940s NetworkManager-wait-online.service
          1.429s systemd-cryptsetup@swap.service

I can't help with the cryptsetup@swap, I don't use encryption on any box and have no need for it.

My swap is

Code: [Select]
232ms dev-disk-by\x2duuid-bee4c35a\x2db180\x2d4d4b\x2da672\x2dba8f2d33dd4b.swap
For the NetworkManager-wait-online.service you can try and edit as root

Code: [Select]
/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager-wait-online.service

Edit these lines:

Code: [Select]
[Service]
Type=oneshot
ExecStart=/usr/bin/nm-online -s -q --timeout=30

Change the 30 to like 10 (experiment with maybe higher than 30 or lower than 10)

Instead of the above you can also try disabling the service with

Code: [Select]
systemctl disable NetworkManager-wait-online.service
I don't have a intel video card, so no experience with them, you may want to check

damn, i hate to repeat myself often - disable wait online, done - wait-online make sense if one runs (act as servver) big local databases or (maybe) use nfs served from the local machine - otherwise it don't make much sense for a desktop machine.

Hello an thank you

The screen-freeze still appears.

The following things I see:

May be this has to do with the problem or not

1. service ntp status
    ends up with:

Code: [Select]
kernel reports TIME_ERROR: 0x2041: Clock
 ntpd[30502]: bind(24) AF_INET6 fe80::e2ca:94ff:fec2:4dd1%3#123 flags 0x11 failed: Cannot assign
ntpd[30502]: unable to create socket on wlp10s0 (6) for fe80::e2ca:94ff:fec2:4dd1%3#123
2. Even after
Code: [Select]
    systemctl disable NetworkManager-wait-online.service
     I get a

     systemd-analyze blame

Code: [Select]
     6.932s NetworkManager-wait-online.service

Q: How can i permanent disable that service?

3.  The time the screen freezes (or just has freezed) I get the following message

I seen a bug posted at redhat

Code: [Select]
NetworkManager.service starts on boot, regardless of disabling the systemd unit.

disabled does not mean that a service cannot start. If another service requires NM.service, it will still be started. If you don't want it to ever start, you need to mask it.

https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/?id=28b97f02f64ecf94e22c8929dfd0ba64151bd9d3

Some people got around this by doing

Code: [Select]
systemctl disable NetworkManager.service
systemctl disable NetworkManager-wait-online.service

This was back in 2017-11-15, so not sure if it still matters

Thank you

Just a question:
Code: [Select]
systemctl disable NetworkManager.service
systemctl disable NetworkManager-wait-online.service

will not disable the Networkmanager permanently?

Regards

@tomsiduction - i would suggest only to disable the wait-online service - it might be that n-m is your main networking service, so disabling that would be funny but not cool. :)

I don't think it can be disabled permanently, I could be wrong because other services needs/relies on it.

Note: disable means that the service won't be started by itself on startup. It still can start if something else depends on it.

However, a disabled service can be loaded, and will be started if a service that depends on it is started; enable and disable only configure auto-start behaviour for units, and the state is easily overridden

See What is the difference between "systemctl mask" and "systemctl disable"? (https://askubuntu.com/q/816285/3712)

You can try and pipe all kscreen stdout and stderr to null

Edit (please back this file up first)

Code: [Select]
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.kde.kscreen.service
To say

Code: [Select]
/[D-BUS Service]
Name=org.kde.KScreen
Exec=/bin/sh -c '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/kf5/kscreen_backend_launcher>/dev/null 2>/dev/null'

If that don't do anything, you have the backup :)

Hello

Still having the problem that the screen freezes -

I have found  the following link

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/wiki/Requirements

is it a good idea to include the named sources:

Code: [Select]
https://launchpad.net/~paulo-miguel-dias/+archive/ubuntu/pkppa
or is it only for ubuntu?

ouch, double ouch, DO NOT use that, that is ubuntu crap only

Not sure what your trying to do with proton, maybe use it ?

Just install steam (it's in debian, apt install steam) once installed, go to settings - account - and enable "steam beta update"  and be done.
