[EN] Unable to login
« on: 2025/11/13, 17:06:29 »
My issue is related to the update issue that some have been affected by. I ran sudo apt upgrade last night and all was good. I went to login this morning and cannot. Siduction runs as usual except after entering my password and hitting the login button, nothing happens. Is this repairable or terminal?

Well. you have to go into the terminal, and perform an 'apt update' followed by an 'apt full-upgrade'.
With 'apt upgrade', only instead of using 'apt full-upgrade', you shoot in your knees, not foot, knees.
If all ready done, full-upgrade', you can try 'startx', or if you using kde/plasma 'startplasma-wayland' or  ' -x11'.
Maybe you can get some error messages.
Also you can look into 'journalctl' what happens.
Also it would be great to tell us what kind of system you are using, which gpu, what desktop, 'inxi -SG' is your/our friend.

After bypassing the gui login (ctrl-alt-F3) I was able to login. I did run full-upgrade as mentioned by HendrikL (and mentioned numerous times in the manual).Startx did nothing as well as startplasma, but the system did suggest I install another bit of kde plasma. I did that and suddenly everything worked as usual. HendrikL, thank you for pointing me in the correct direction.
