Title: password change
Post by: finotti on 2021/08/17, 21:13:21
After a couple of weeks traveling, I've updated my system (which actually is still running aptosid).  For the first time ever, I was asked to change passwords for root and user.  In fact, my SDDM was stuck when I tried to login, and found out the problem when I tried the TTY.  (I needed to change the password.)

Is there a new password policy?

I've asked the same question in the german section. I guess the reason for this behavior ist the change of the password-hash with debian11 from sha-512 to yescrypt
 Have a look here (https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/release-notes/ch-information.de.html#pam-default-password)
But I'm not shure about this

Thanks for the Info!  That makes sense.
