Well, that is a bit scarce info to judge anything here. But the guy on the forum did not succeed either, did he?

Hi
Look like he did it.
But my question is:
Is there any other way to install Cinnamon 2.4 on Siduction ( Debian)
Regards

It seemed a straightforward thing for me to try about two weeks ago, but without success.  I removed LXQT and LightDM, then installed Cinnamon.  The system booted, then stopped at a grey screen.  I'm sure there's something I failed to remove in the beginning or didn't install with Cinnamon, but haven't figured out yet.

For my next attempt, I'm putting Indian Summer on a USB stick and looking at its configuration.  Perhaps I can strip my main system again and install a working Cinnamon...

Hello mp3playerfan,

Upstream (Linuxmint) doesn't fix bugs in 2.2 but instead has switched to the 2.4 branch. Debian is frozen and the debian cinnamon team focuses on maturing cinnamon 2.2 for the release of jessie. The team does backport the fixes from 2.4 to the 2.2 branch.

But one member has started packaging 2.4 recently and the first try has major issues (like it wouldn't start successfully). So there is manpower needed! Feel free to join irc://irc.oftc.net:6667/#debian-cinnamon and offer your help.

siduction simply depends on its upstream (debian unstable).

[Update] Four hours after this posting things changed:  "cinnamon 2.4 for debian experimental ready in git, first test seems promising."
So I will annouce when packages in experimental are available.

greetings

Hello brightflash64,

if you insist on starting from an existing siduction install you should look into addpkg (i.e. for cinnamon 2.2).

$ /usr/sbin/addpkg --help
Usage: addpkg {cinnamon|custom|gnome|kde|plasma5|lxde|lxqt|mate|rqt|siducation-full|siducation-lite|xfce}

I cannot say how well it works, but you can discuss it here as it is a part of siduction-scripts.

greetings

hello,

the debian cinnamon team has uploaded a first set of packages of the 2.4 series to debian experimental repo.
I gave it a try in a virtualbox vm - and it crashes on startup.
may be related to my set of kernel + vbox drivers only, but i don't know.

So be careful ... don't break your production systems.

[edit:] In the meantime cinnamon 2.6 is in unstable, no known migration issues.
