Title: New linux box
Post by: jyp on 2020/08/01, 21:06:02
Hi everyone
My desktop is getting a bit old (10 years) and, while it still runs siduction happily, I am considering upgrading the motherboard memory and ssd, since I started editing quite a lot of videos (kdenlive).
My actual machine is running on an Intel i5 cpu with integrated graphics and 16G of ram.
There is actually quite a buzz around AMD cpu with integrated graphics. In your opinion, is the AMD linux (siduction) support for this APU as solid as the support for Intel which, up to now, has given me good service. I could also consider getting 32G of ram.

Thank you for any advice that you could provide.

I would consider AMD support for Linux at least equal to that of Intel, probably better by now. I switched to an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X half a year ago with an external AMD GPU and I am a very happy camper.

@devil
Thanks a lot for your comment. I don't play games so an APU  was considered; using a GPU might benefit my video editing though.

Thanks again for all the fabulous work.jyp

I don't play games either, but the CPU I wanted was not available with a GPU. So I got myself a relatively low powered Radeon 5500 XT.

I'd recommend using something by AMD, too, as you'll get better compatibility. That's what I'm running on my Linux computer project, and don't have any issue
