Because scroogle.org is history since a couple of days, i am using startpage.com for a couple of days.
At least the first three 'sponsored' links are blocked by my adblock settings, that may serve as kind of hint. ;)

Ok thanks for the suggestions, looks good.

To change to new search engines in the search bar in Iceweasel is easy but how do I change the search engine Iceweasel use when I type something in the address bar?

Edit:

Found a solution myself, http://blog.dale.id.au/archives/604

Hi,

I changed in about:config

browser.search.defaultenginename from string "google" to "DuckDuckGo".

Works for me

@ayla,

und wenn du noch eine Kennung "LinuxMint" einbaust, können die an deinen Klicks sogar noch mitverdienen.

... Hmm, irgendwie sollte auch siduction solch einen Sponsor haben.

...just noticed that startpage.com is "enhanced by Google".

In general i use duckduck.go, and sometimes startpage.

I don't fully understand how seeks works, but here are public nodes:

and yacy is completely above me (it gives me very strange results):

Save settings without cookies - https://startpage.com/eng/urlgenerator-details.html
Quote
You can save your Startpage preferences by clicking on the "SAVE MY SETTING" button on the "MY SETTINGS" page.
–   This will save your settings on your computer in a 'cookie'- a small piece of data stored on your hard drive - called 'preferences'.
–   Startpage's 'preferences' cookie is a non-identifiable cookie and safe to accept, but cookies in general can pose a threat to your privacy.
–   People who prefer not to accept cookies or delete them regularly would not be able to keep their preferences this way.
–   For those people, Startpage has especially provided the "Generate URL" button at the bottom of the "MY SETTINGS" page.
–   Pushing that button a specific Startpage URL containing your selected settings will be generated.
–   It can be generated in readable or obfuscated form.
–   The generated URL can now be be directly set as your homepage or copied and used as a bookmark.
–   Using this URL all of your preferences will be used the next time you visit Ixquick.
–   Startpage continues to offer you privacy-enhancing features for searching the web safely!

duckduckgo does something similar
DuckDuckGo URL Params - https://duckduckgo.com/params.html

Plus duckduckgo works with tor, it has an onion address.

Startpage, ixquick, and duckduckgo can be searched using surfraw

I didn't know surfraw. This is a really nice tool! But sadly startpage is not part of the game. I guess one could add it, but I'm not able to write the needed file in /usr/lib/surfraw.

Use ixquick instead. Startpage is coming from ixquick.com
