Title: update icon permanently shows 4 updates
Post by: blackone on 2012/01/05, 12:22:48
Hi all

As the post title, the little orange update available icons allways shows four updates available - but there is none when checked.

How would I fix this

Hi

Yes this is lxde.

I suppose I do a mixture of checking either by clicking the update icon or I do an aptosid way of init 3 - dist-upgrade - thats when upgrading.  But as I said the icon permanently shows now 6 updates.  I upgraded this morning using the icon.

If apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade -d has nothing to update, then i have no idea. You will have to wait for a lxde maintainer.

Hi blackone!

Synaptic and update-notifier were included in the release candidate, but are not recommended to use (rather for testing purposes). So the simplest solution would be just to remove/purge these packages by 'apt-get purge synaptic update-notifier', although it shouldn't do any harm as they are just gui frontends for apt-get to fetch and install available updates. After that (at least after a re-login) the icon in the panel should have disappeared.
