[EN] Need new printer - what do you recomend?

(1/2) > >>

Lanzi:
I was very happy with my canon IP4800. It worked for about 10-12 years silently, without many problems with third party ink.
But now I got the error message that the ink buffer is nearly full.

If I remember correctly thats a think with many ink printers. I am not sure if I can reset this...

Anyway, in case I need a new one, I think about switching to a color laser printer...

So what are my requirements:

- only few pages every week (about 3-5 pages/week)
- I should run on linux without caring with every DU about drivers.
- If ink it should run with third party ink, if laser it shouldn't be too big and have a power switch to save energy.
- extras like scan and copy would be nice, if they run in linux, but not essential

What would you buy?

Lanzi:
I think I push this, because I still need some recomandations :)

hendrikL:
Well. I don't think you want to read this, but most hp and Brother printers work ootb.

I needed a new printer/scanner/copier a few months ago, read the vast amount of reports on printers not working with Linux but eventually decided on a Brother unit it is only B&W got it home connected it up and everything just works out of the box, things have definitely improved regarding Linux compatibility over the years.

hendrikL:
I have two printers, both connect via network (PC/Notebook/Smartphone <-->WLAN <--> LAN <--> Printer),
an HP LaserJet 4250 BW Double site printer and a Brother DCP 9022CDW all in one double site printing color laser printer where the scanner also works ootb with sane over network.

Both with "driverless, cups-filters 1.28.17"!
