Hello,
it's already a couple of weeks that I have this problem, but I wanted to see if, in the meantime, some update could solve it, which didn't happen.
Basically, after installing Desperado 12.1 all composting effects in kwin did run smooth. After d-u (a couple of weeks ago), just *SOME* (!) of them like for instance wobbling windows, cube desktop, genius lamp, circular window changer do not work anymore (kwin says it cannot activate those) while all the others (e.g. translucency, presentation, etc.) are working correctly.
This is the xw8400 HP workstation I have quoted in the other email about successful install and currently runs an NVIDIA PCIe card. Here is inxi -F:

I tried the following:
-updating the NVIDIA driver
-renaming .kde/ and creating a new one
-changing video card (right now there's a Quadro FX3500, also tried a Geforce 9400GT and 8500GT)
-waiting a d-u which implied some kde/xorg update
Nothing has worked. This thing is puzzling me.
Should I reinstall with 12.1.1 (maybe it's a known bug) or what?
Thanks
