I think it is *not* a good idea to display the wallpaper in streched mode. Depending on your hw you get ovate planets, which looks really ugly and ridiculous.

I don't know whether streched mode is the default behaviour you can't change. But I think an other solution should be found. As a last resort change it or display it scaled on black/darkgray background.
Ok, you can't code, but you still might be able to write a bug report for Debian's sake
