190 packages to be removed
« on: 2013/06/19, 20:40:45 »
Tried to d-u the whole day but apt-get wants to remove 190 packages, all of them 32 bit, probably just to wait until 32 bit will catch up? (xfce 64 bit multiarch)

I use 64 bit and only have 3 packages to remove.  It's always good to wait and see what the dist-upgrade looks like a day later.
Linux Counter number 348347

Maybe I need a little help here, nothing is happening, still 190 packages to be removed. Have one more computer here with multiarch and d-u want to remove about 40 packages there. Can it be that there are something old that needs to be removed that causes all this or shall I just wait?
I show  the output of d-u, it's in Swedish, "tas bort" means "will be removed"

There are currently incompatibilities, because libc6:amd64 and libc6:i386 are with different versions in the debian-repository. Try a hold on libc6:
Code: [Select]
echo libc6 hold | dpkg --set-selections
If it doesn't help, try also a hold on the package libc6:i386

To "unhold" it later:
Code: [Select]
echo libc6 install | dpkg --set-selections
respectively
Code: [Select]
echo libc6:i386 install | dpkg --set-selections

Tried it but doesnt't work because of other dependencies (grub common)

Your best bet would be at this point is to wait it out or let them all go and reinstall what you can

When was the last time you actually did a dist-upgrade ?

It had to be a while because you still have ia32-libs

This is what happens in sid when you don't do a du on a regular basis, especially now that the freeze has been over.

You shouldn't have to hold libc6 it is automatically kept back

hmm, wonder why no one else is having problems

More than once a week and you still have

Did you have them on hold ?

The only thing I have on hold as I can recall is systemd-sysv.

I think I try to let all go, I will loose google earth for now but that no big deal.

Never skype on my main box so not loosing anything there ;)

I'm back with 191 less packages!

Although I have no idea about programming or stuff like that I think apt must be one outstanding application to handle all this and (almost) always let me land on my feet. If it occasionally  gets wrong it normally tells me to use the -f install and it will fix it for me. And if that's not helping I have this forum :)
