The "problem" is your nvidia graphics, quadro graphics has bad support in nouveau.

Hello Towo, thanks for the response.
I admit this is an old Lenovo W510, but it has been running with the nouveau driver for at least 4 years now without problems.
It's only recently that I start to have problems with Plasma (dual monitor setup not working fine at startup, now flickering).
I'm running KDE since my Sidux times.

What would you recommend ?
Try the Nvidia driver (340.108) ?
Something else ?

Yesterday's upgrade to Plasma 5.23.3 didn't solve the issue

Cinnamon (software rendering) seems to be running fine.
Normal Cinnamon has problems with the second monitor (vga)

Will try the Nvidia driver (340.108) later today.

I did try the Nvidia driver (340.108), but ran into problems.
It hangs during the boot process, just before normally switching to the login screen.

Fortunately, I could switch back to the nouveau driver.

Think I will stick with Cinnamon for the moment.

If anyone has some suggestions, I'm happy to try them.

The legacy Nvidia driver doesn't seem an option for me :

Quote Debian Wiki :

3. Legacy versions of the NVIDIA driver may not always support the latest kernel. For instance, the 304xx series driver, though available in the Debian Unstable repository, does not support Linux 5.0 or newer. As necessary, you might consider using an older Debian version, or using Nouveau instead. Nouveau has decent performance with GPUs that are old enough to no longer be supported by the proprietary driver.

Time for a new machine I think.
Should we call this programmed obsolescence?  8)

Or, more positive: REALLY well-designed graphics hardware.   :P
