system-config-printer-kde is going to be removed

Hi,

if system-config-printer-kde is removed, I suspect this hint http://forum.siduction.org/index.php?msg=30244#30244 won't work any more. So I put system-config-printer-kde on hold for now.

Ich befürchte, dass dieser Hinweis http://forum.siduction.org/index.php?msg=30414#30414 nicht mehr funktioniert, wenn system-config-printer-kde entfernt wird. Ich habe system-config-printer-kde fürs erste auf hold gesetzt.

Tonight I see plasma-scriptengine-python, python-kde and system-config-printer-kde wanting to be removed.  I don't see anything to be installed that would replace them, so, I'll see what dist-upgrade looks like tomorrow.

Damn, this was the first chance I had to do an upgrade since Sunday.  Oh well, I shouldn't complain, the transition has been going smooth for me so far.  Waiting til tomorrow is no biggy.

For me waiting is better than putting things on hold.  You never know what versionitis will show up if those on hold don't keep up with the newer versions in the rest of the update.

Hi,

system-config-printer-kde is now deprecated and should be replace by print-manager. Try it, probably you will find it better than its predecessor. At least, I can say it works better for me.

python-kde4 is about the changing python-sip-10 api - I noticed some threads before. Santa is working on it. Perhaps our siduction server just right now builds ....

Hi,

I've tested nothing in detail, but so far, so fine. Printer is present, system language is considered, what system-config-printer-kde did not, and appearance looks more advanced. Thanks Santa.

Worth to be mentioned is, that I let s-c-p-k go with a d-u, but printer remains present, and reinstalled it yesterday afternoon, as it was possible again. Just now I removed it again and installed print-manager.

Ich habe nichts im Detail getestet, aber so weit so gut. Der Drucker ist da, die Systemsprache wird berücksichtigt, was system-config-printer-kde nicht tat, und das Erscheinungsbild erscheint mir aufgeräumter. Danke Santa.

Erwähnenswert ist noch, dass ich s-c-p-k bei einem d_u entfernen lies, aber der Drucker blieb verfügbar, und gestern Nachmittag neu installiert habe, als es wieder möglich war. Gerade eben habe ich wieder deinstalliert und print-manager installiert.

I can confirm that tonights dist-upgrade went through without having to remove anything.  I had to setup the printer through CUPS though, hplip kept complaining about having to restart CUPS, so, I just used CUPS instead.  

I never had a problem with hplip before.  I have a wireless network printer, and it always found it.  Heh, as long as I gave it the printers local address.  

"Printer Configuration" from "Desktop Settings" found the printer, so, somehow hplip is not playing nice with CUPS.  
 
hplip says, "Note: Only devices installed with the hp: or hpfax: CUPS backend will appear in the HP Device Manager."  The plot thickens.
