Title: (Solved) Wallpapers at gallery.siduction.org
Post by: tosidornottosid on 2013/09/08, 13:19:10
Good Day to you all!

I would like to pose a question about
the distro's wallpapers.

There is a site, http://gallery.siduction.org/
It contains many nice wallpapers,
from all the distro's releases and more.
I would like very much to use them.

Is this site connected with siduction.org? (Probably...)

One can browse and open a file (a wallpaper image)
but they are too small. 800x500 is not suitable
size for a widescreen desktop wallpaper.

Does anyone know how to download those images in their
actual sizes?

Maybe by logging in? Yet, the site has a 'login' button
but no 'Create Account' button.

Thank you!

You may create an account on siduction.org start page (upper right corner)

http://siduction.org/index.php?module=benutzer&func=register&lang=en

enjoy ... and welcome

Thanks for the welcome!

I have already created an accound to login into http://siduction.org
My problem is with http://gallery.siduction.org

And it has all those fine wallpapers...
For example, I was searching a lot for the wallpapers of the
One Step Beyond edition.
I couldn't find them anywhere, the large, original images.
I only found a few small ones on the internet, actually
printed screens of other people's desktops.

And then, I come across this site
which has them all. It seems like an archive of siduction wallpapers.
But they are small again, and I can't find a way
to get to the large images.

OK, it's not really a serious matter!

Thanks again

The last time I looked at the gallery, it was for deciding on artwork just before a release.  It was just used as a staging area so community members could vote on wallpaper choice.

Although, I do think that some of the "User" art WAS meant for download, but is only available at reduced resolution, possibly due to the way it was uploaded, or, maybe I'm missing the way of downloading the full resolution.

I think we just lost track of the gallery, waiting for the new version of the website/forum to appear.

The .deb packages are in the siduction repo -- I've never downloaded them that way, but if you go here (http://packages.siduction.org/?Repositories:base_amd64), then look for "siduction-art-blahblah-ridersonthestorm" (example), click on the "all" link for the binaries, you get the package.  Kind of a clunky way, but it is a way.   :)

Once you have the .deb, you can open it with your favorite gui archiver, like xarchiver, and wayyyy down the hierarachy under /usr/share/doc/xxx are the actual .png files, organized by resolution.  It's pretty obvious when you're looking at it, how to pull out the resolution that you want.

dibl: fyi - apt-get sources siduction-art-$foo is the better way imho. there are the inkscape source files and the scripts to create the final bitmaps.

hmm ..

git clone git://git.siduction.org/code/siduction-art-foo.git

may work too

Thank you for your answers!

By the way, how do I mark a thread as "(Solved)"?

Do I have to just edit the thread's title? Or is there a specific tool for this job?
