As the topic said, the Qt 5.7.1 transision has started and the first packages will hit sid soon - so please be carefull.
It will take slightly more packages with it in a KDE installation:
http://paste.debian.net/891445/
-
Be careful anyway ´til 05.11.2016, this is the next freeze.
-
5. November is only the start of the transition freeze, soft freeze (no new packages, no re-entry, 10-day migrations) starts on 5. Jan. and full freeze on 5. Feb. 2017.
-
Additional - planned and acked ongoing transitions are allowed after 2016/11/05 - so this date don't mean: "Fine, i can hit <Enter> without thinking until freeze is over" - transition freeze means only that there will be no new packages that introduce abi or api changes. Also normal dependencies can and will break things
-
Thanks for the info.
-
"Fine, I can hit <Enter> without thinking until freeze is over" LOL!
-
NOT
-
This evening d-u succeeded without any package removals!
But: Login by sddm not possible, login mask disappeared, KDE Plasma not usable
-
Yes, no packages to remove does not mean there is no breakage.
So the warning is still up!
-
Thanks for this clear advice!
-
"He's dead, Jim!"
okay, that's what test machines can do for us:
At least after a "dpkg-reconfigure plasma-desktop" I got to the point that the splash screen freezes.
only yakuake still works, but I couldn't start any other graphical apps.
greetings
musca
-
Everything works ... but, no taskbar, quicklaunch
conky and wbar on the desktop, I pretty much open everything with wbar, (konq, dolphin, firefox, thunderbird, mythtv, amarok, systemsettings) no problems with yakuake
(http://pipersid.net/myshit/linux/images/thumb-desktop.png) (http://pipersid.net/myshit/linux/images/desktop.png)
EDIT: I also have no problems with sddm
-
The problem is that a lot of qt5-packages are already on v. 5.7.1-206110-21-n (where n is 2, 4 or 5). But not all qt5-packages are on that version yet. Specialy the qml-related ones are not. You can check with
dpkg -l | grep qt5
A solution would be to downgrade all packages with 5.7.1-206110-21-n (where n is 2, 4 or 5) to testing or just wait it out (which could be a few days).
-
Missed the warnings after being away for a week so, yesterday, ended up with a box that froze on desktop start up.
d-u today seems to have solved the problem for me
-
Same here. Missed the warning but with today dist-upgrade everything seems to be ok again.
-
A lot of talk about KDE here, nothing wrong with that but is it ok to d-u xfce now?
I have one package that will be removed, libqt5xdg1, it has been the same the last days, same package to be removed.
-
Confirm that: d-u today seems to have solved the problem for me.
@vilde: hijacking this thread is not appreciated - pls open a new thread.
-
Two KF5/plasma5 systems (1 laptop, 1 desktop) fully updated today, no problems on either one.
-
vilde: let it go
-
I had no problems after today's d-u in a virtual siduction system (KDE).
-
Thank you melmarker. By the way, I'm not able to quote posts here, when I press quote I just return to the same side again.
-
I can't confirm this. My testsystem (paintitblack plain install, only d-u, no further usage) shows no window decoration. My notebook with intel onboard-graphics still freezes, crashes and now a black screen after starting plasma. My main desktop hasn't been upgraded since two weeks to preserve one working system. I'm little bit unhappy with the current situation...
-
The situation has been resolved. You need to dist-upgrade. If you have libqt5qml5 version 5.7.1~20161021-5 available, you are fine. If not, your mirror is slow.
-
Thanks devil,
my last d-u on the notebook was yesterday evening. Now the plasma desktop is back with d-u five minutes ago. But my testsystems has still no window decoration.
-
Than that would be a seperate issue. Is kwin-x11 installed? Does installing kde-standard do anything?
-
Two days ago SDDM broke and I couldn't get into KDE. After yesterday's du, everything is working great again. Are we still needing to watch for the qt transition?
-
The situation has been resolved. ... If not, your mirror is slow.
-
It's done (all but one package on architectures we do not use')
https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/qtbase-abi-5-7-1.html
-
Today made an d-u on 2 KDE systems here. All is running fine and up to now no errors found!
-
@zash1958 - don't give up and trust me - you will find some soon or later 8)
-
;D
ALL software is buggy - You have only not discovered the disaster up to now 8)
Nevertheless I'm happy that my system is booting and running after the upgrade
Before an d-u I always make a complete backup.......
-
@Devil
Thanks again. kwin-x11 and some dependencies were missing.
I don't understand why it is not a dependency to kde-standard, but I bet there will be a beautiful mind to tell why I'm wrong.
-
Thats easy - nothin depend on kwin-x11 | kwin - so you can happily purge it or loose it while upgrading the machine. That's all, nothing to see ...

d-u worked for me all good.
Thank heavens for threads such as this.
Saves a lot of headaches.
-
Thats easy - nothin depend on kwin-x11
Thanks you, Captain Obvious,
that is what I expected.
-
no - it isn't so obvious - kwin-x11 | kwin means that there are a few packages that are (or at least should be) interchangable. And debian install with recommends, so a package that provide kwin should be installed if one install plasma-desktop. That make changes less painfull.
But it might be painful for users if the package is removed by a transition and $user don't notice it. Thats the funny thing about sid. Things can and will break, that will never happend in a stable environment.
-
What is the current status here? Can this be marked as "Done"?
I was checking https://release.debian.org/transitions/ (https://release.debian.org/transitions/) but couldn't find something.
But in my current setup a du would case to remove libmovit4 libqt5xdg1 texlive-math-extra.

Hi piper,
thanks for youranswer but I don't see what you want to tell me.
-
He' showing that he let all of those go, so it should be safe to do the same. (I know that tetex-math-extra has been incorporated in a different package.)
-
Thanks finotti ;)
buhtz, I really didn't know I had to spell it out with 2 of the packages listed giving the results of
Installed: (none)
Candidate: (none)
In the future, if you see the no candidate, it means it doesn't exist in debian sid (could be a name change, could be joined in a meta package)
