Title: Calamares drive bug with VirtIO bus type
Post by: terroreek on 2017/03/14, 00:59:00
Hi All,

So there is a minor issue when using the patience install with the calamares installer.  When I get to the disk section, you'll see the disk appears to be empty.

However I can open open gparted and you can see disk /dev/vda is there.

Below is the XML config for the VM in question.

</domain>

The problem I believe is that it set to use the virtio bus type for the disk.

Code: [Select]
<disk type='file' device='disk'>
      <driver name='qemu' type='qcow2'/>
      <source file='/home/terroreek/VMs/siduction-kde.qcow2'/>
      <target dev='vda' bus='virtio'/>
      <boot order='2'/>
      <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x09' function='0x0'/>
    </disk>

When I update the config to use the sata bus;

Code: [Select]
<disk type='file' device='disk'>
      <driver name='qemu' type='qcow2'/>
      <source file='/home/terroreek/VMs/siduction-kde.qcow2'/>
      <target dev='sdb' bus='sata'/>
      <boot order='2'/>
      <address type='drive' controller='0' bus='0' target='0' unit='1'/>
    </disk>

After the change you can see in gparted the disk is now seen as (/dev/sda) in and the installer sees the drive now.

The work around is to install siduction with the hard drive mounted with the sata bus type, after the install change it back to VirtIO.  My guess is the installer doesn't think vdX drives are hard drives.

I think this issue was brought up, and seems to have been fixed.
