Calamares stuck at 93%
« on: 2018/03/04, 17:09:37 »
Trying to install siduction hangs at 93%, details filed as issue in calares github, but they claim that it is siductions fault, see  https://github.com/calamares/calamares/issues/912

They is Kevin Kofler - i would not give  much attention to this.

Second thing is that calamares right now has a known limitation. It can't install on the drive where the installer is located at (for what reason ever) - so if your stick is /dev/sdb you are not able to install on /dev/sdb. As i said, nuts - but until now they don't follow.

Tested this right now with our upcoming release - one need two sticks. Boot from stick A, insert Stick B later on, install on B - be sure that you format the disk. Will test this later with 2018.1.0 but it should work.

EDIT: If you want to install on the same stick where the install medium is located, you need to boot with toram, remove the boot stick, insert a dummy stick, place the original stick again in the computer and select it as install target - it might be needed to write a new partition table before.

I have the ISO image on sdb and I am trying to install on sdc4/sdc2 linux/EFI. But there is yet another EFI partition on sda.

Und wo ist das Problem?

Steps to install siduction on stick added to your upstream bug - if you encounter problems just join at #siduction or #siduction-de - it make more sense than using the forum for such kind of problems.

> Und wo ist das Problem?

calamares bleibt bei folgendem Schritt hängen:

Running "chroot" ("/tmp/calamares-root-5px70khm", "grub-install", "--target=x86_64-efi", "--efi-directory=/boot/efi", "--bootloader-id=siduction_2018.1.0", "--force")

> just join at #siduction or #siduction-de

I remember having a calamares problem on a laptop with an Nvidia GPU.  I needed to boot the siduction stick with a "nomodeset" option, or else calamares died like OP describes.

... need to boot with toram ...

on yet another legacy BIOS system, I get with "toram" the following error: "Failed to detect live media" and it drops me into BusyBox.

Code: [Select]
21:39:30 [1]: Job "bootloader" (doc) -> "Starts procedure and passes 'fw_type' to other routine."
21:39:30 [0]: Running "chroot" ("/tmp/calamares-root-7zi8cyji", "grub-install", "--target=x86_64-efi", "--efi-directory=/boot/

Code: [Select]
11:42:46 [0]: Starting job "bootloader"
11:42:46 [6]: Job file "/usr/lib/calamares/modules/bootloader/main.py"
11:42:46 [6]: Job description from __doc__ "bootloader" = "Starts procedure and passes 'fw_type' to other routine."
11:42:46 [6]: [PYTHON JOB]:  "Bootloader: grub (efi)"
11:42:46 [0]: Running "chroot" ("/tmp/calamares-root-snjl2dc9", "grub-install", "--target=x86_64-efi", "--efi-directory=/boot/efi", "--bootloader-id=siduction_2018.2.0", "--force")
11:42:47 [0]: Finished. Exit code: 0
11:42:47 [6]: [PYTHON JOB]:  "UEFI Fallback: True"
11:42:47 [6]: [PYTHON JOB]:  "  .. installing 'bootx64.efi' fallback firmware"
11:42:47 [0]: Running "chroot" ("/tmp/calamares-root-snjl2dc9", "grub-mkconfig", "-o", "/boot/grub/grub.cfg")
11:42:48 [0]: Finished. Exit code: 0
