KF5 users beware dmo removals!
« on: 2015/09/16, 13:23:42 »
Today there were over 170 packages to be upgraded in a d-u, but with the dmo repo enabled there would be 24 removals of audio/video packages including ffmpeg, kaffeine, etc.  Disable the dmo repo, apt-get update, and then the d-u will go through with no removals.
System76 Oryx Pro, Intel Core i7-11800H, SSD 970 EVO Plus;  Asus ROG STRIX X299-E, Core i7-7740X, Nvidia GTX-1060, dual monitors, SSD 860 EVO

My d-u this morning was about an hour later than yours.  I re-enabled dmo to check the situation -- here is what I see at this time (1432 EDT):

Code: [Select]
root@Hibiscus:/# apt-get dist-upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  ffmpeg ffmpegthumbs gxine gxineplugin kaffeine libavdevice55 libavdevice56 libavfilter5 libavformat56 libchromaprint0
  libxine2-all-plugins libxine2-ffmpeg libxine2-plugins libxine2-x paprefs pulseaudio-module-bluetooth pulseaudio-module-gconf
  pulseaudio-module-x11 pulseaudio-module-zeroconf vlc vlc-nox vlc-plugin-notify xine-plugin xine-ui
The following packages have been kept back:
  kactivities libavcodec56 libavcodec56:i386
The following packages will be upgraded:
  binutils libavresample2 libavresample2:i386 libavutil54 libavutil54:i386 libpostproc53 libswresample1 libswresample1:i386
  libswscale3
9 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 24 to remove and 3 not upgraded.
Need to get 4,736 kB of archives.
After this operation, 29.7 MB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] n
Abort

I haven't made any deeper investigation since I can work around it by disabling the repo.

I got it yesterday morning.

Code: [Select]
don@Hibiscus:~$ uname -a
Linux Hibiscus 4.2.0-towo.1-siduction-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT siduction 4.2-1 (2015-09-15) x86_64 GNU/Linux

Look at this (with dmo enabled):

Code: [Select]
root@Hibiscus:/# apt-get -s install libavcodec56
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libavcodec56 : Depends: libilbc2 (>= 2.0.2) but it is not going to be installed

Huh.  Strange -- the problematic package installed with no issue.

Code: [Select]
root@Hibiscus:/# apt-get install libilbc2
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libilbc2
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 15 not upgraded.
Need to get 49.9 kB of archives.
After this operation, 112 kB of additional disk space will be used.
Get:1 http://www.deb-multimedia.org/ sid/main libilbc2 amd64 2.0.2-dmo3 [49.9 kB]
Fetched 49.9 kB in 0s (76.2 kB/s)
Selecting previously unselected package libilbc2.
(Reading database ... 226778 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack .../libilbc2_2.0.2-dmo3_amd64.deb ...
Unpacking libilbc2 (2.0.2-dmo3) ...
Setting up libilbc2 (2.0.2-dmo3) ...
Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.19-20) ...

Then I can install libavcodec56 and it removes skype and libasound2-plugin.i386, none of which work without a systemtray anyway, so that's what I did.

And now a d-u against dmo will go through with no further issues.  So, the lurking problem was skype and a couple of xxx.i386 packages blocking the newer dmo multimedia packages.  All good now.  Sorry for all the noise -- this is only going to affect users with multi-arch and skype installed, I think.

That was going to be my next question cause I thought you used skype.

I don't use skype no more, but, multiarch I do.

Glad you got it all sorted, nothing to be sorry about  ;)
