[EN] About Release notes and new applications
« on: 2015/04/05, 01:05:37 »
So, a few weeks ago I messed up one of my siduction installations by trying to get xfce 4.12 from experimental, no big deal so I did a new installation. To my own surprice this turned out to be my first installation if  Indian Summer.  As usual I went for the xfce version (siduction 14.1.0 Indian Summer - xfce - (201411230427) and as usual among other extra  applications I installed vlc. Yesterday by coincidence  SMPlayer started when I should look a a self made movie.   As usual I thought no no, this shall be handled by vlc, but first I tried the , for me, new movie player, and it looked good and after some more testing with different movie formats it also works good and it will probably make me not needing vlc any more. This is the first time of all years with your distributions that I can use the native movie player in the xfce version.

I checked the release notes for Indian Summer, there is nothing or I can't se anything about a new movie player being introduced. I think I wrote about this long time before, probably in the aptosid forums.  I would appreciate very much to be informed in the release notes of new applications or applications which are changed to some other.

I like the idea of a rolling dist but it can make you sit there with old applications that are changed to new (and hopefully better) ones in new releases if you don't get information that there are new applications.

I knew that you are low on man power, I can't claim anything and I don't do, but this is the place to put requests so I do ask for information about new main applications in the release notes in the future.

These are the default applications for siduction 14.1.0 Indian Summer - xfce , copied from my builds folder using pyfll   (pyfll/pyfll/packages/packages.d/950-siduction-xfce).

Many moons ago (sidux, can't remember after that) we used to use manifests, might be a good idea again

@ piper, the manifests are among the download files, but that’s all the packages, If I understand your list it's the packages for the desktop?

Even if the changes can be seen in the manifests, it's not very easy for an amateur to find the changes which can be of use for a user to know about.

To write in the release notes that, aplication x for doing that and that  has been changed to y , would be better. Movie player has been change from xine to SMPlayer......

@vilde: you may be surprised, but i like the suggestion - it make sense.
